An OSCE Model Exam at Tbilisi State Medical University
On June 25, 2012 the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) will be held at Tbilisi State Medical University. In the exam the fifth year medical students of the Faculty of Medicine (both English and Georgian Sector) will participate.
An OSCE will be organized by Tbilisi State Medical University, supported by USAID-SUSTAIN and JSI, and methodologically supported by Prof. Babill Pederson from Oslo University.
An OSCE first was offered in 1960, and then it was commonly implemented in medicine from 1970. An OSCE is an integrated method, which tests communicative and medical skills of medical students, provides safety of patients and it is used to standardize the student evaluation.
An OSCE is done in twelve different rooms, which are called as “stations”. Two of theses “stations” are “break stations”. Candidates rotate through the stations. There are different tasks in different stations, which evaluate clinical skills of candidates. There might be interactive or non-interactive tasks in each station. Candidates have 7 minutes in each station and 1 minute for rotation. The students get in and out of each station when the bell rings.
An objective modern marking scheme is used to evaluate the students.
